Cans are produced from aluminium plates for canned drinks at CROWN BEVCAN's Kocaeli factory. At the last phase of prıduction cans must be labelled before they are shipped. This labelling process is done by CROWN Labelling Application which controls MARKEM Print & Apply device through RS232 communication port.
Work flow is as follows:
- Line and job order definitions are done on the labelling application. This way the software is able to determine for which line and job order a product will be produced.
- The application sends queries to a web service provided by CROWN's ERP system using this job order thereby getting data to be printed on labels and saves this data in their database. Every job definition ends with this query. If a successful query cannot be done then "line job order" definition will not be valid.s
- The application communicates with Line I and Line II PLC using RS232 serial port communication thereby being able to determine from which line the palletes on the common line comes. This information is saved into CROWN's database and a job order for label printing is created
- The data previously queried and stored for the next job is sent to MARKEM labelling device by the application using RS232 serial port communication and printing of the appropriate label by the device is ensured.
- When the "label printed" message is received from MARKEM labeling device the next job on the created job queue is processed and labelling information is sent.
- In case of a breakdown or manual pallete loading labels containing line information are stuck by an operator and the system overwrites the information on the job queue when these labels are read.
